Lindsay’s Return to the Ice: A Story of Resilience & Hope
For Lindsay Janes, figure skating has always been a huge part of her life—as a skater, coach, and member of the skating community. But in 2021, everything changed when she was diagnosed with a Grade 2 Spinal Ependymoma, leading to paralysis after surgery. Facing uncertainty and loss, she wondered if she could ever return to the sport she loved.
That’s when Easter Seals NL’s Equipment Loan Program gave her hope. Thanks to the program, Lindsay was able to borrow a sled and get back on the ice, rediscovering her passion and even returning to coaching! This opportunity has been life-changing—both physically and mentally.
In June 2024, Lindsay celebrated her 40th birthday on the ice—something she had dreamed of her entire life. After everything she’s been through, this milestone was a powerful celebration of strength, community, and resilience.
