Stephenville Skating Club - Stephenville

The Stephenville Skating Club invites applications from two Regional Skate Canada certified (or higher) Coaches to join our team as Club coach and CanSkate coach for the 2024 – 2025 season. We offer a range of Skate Canada programs at the stunning Olympic sized Stephenville Dome, starting from October to April. Our club is adapting to the new normal after COVID. We usually have around 80-100 skaters from PRE-CAN to STARskate level, as well as SYNCHROskate.

Coaches are expected to:
• Teach athletes in PRECAN, CANSKATE, STARSKATE, and SYNCHROSKATE
• Test STAR Levels
• Inspire, train and support athletes for competitions, tests and seminars
• Review and improve athletes’ performances
• Create routines for skaters
• Assist in organizing the annual ice show
• Adhere to the Skate Canada Code of Ethics
• Demonstrate positivity, enthusiasm and self-motivation
• Collaborate well with others

Qualifications:
• Be a Skate Canada Professional Coach in Good Standing
• Have at least Regional Coach (Primary STARSKATE / Level 1) Certification
• Have STAR Level Assessment certification. Star 1 – 5 Testing Training
• Have current First Aid Certification

Hourly Rate:
• Based on certification and experience

Coaches oversee the overall delivery of the program, on & off ice instruction, planning, and skater development. They also participate in competitions and test days, and help with planning and running the year-end ice show. The Club Executive supports all the coaches’ responsibilities. Prince of Whales Skating Club - St. John's

Prince of Wales Skating Club in St. John’s, NL is looking for 2 Full Time Coaches.

Position 1. Experienced Coach and Dance partner, who is able to coach and partner dances through diamond dances. Has experience working with competitive dance teams has competed at a high level, national level or international level in Ice Dance Is willing to develop an ice dance program in a club. Is willing to work with singles skaters on basic skating technique and some background in choreography. Willing to work with Canskate.

Position 2 Free-Skate and performance coach who has competed or coached at the minimum of a national junior level. Strong knowledge of jump technique, spin technique, capable of teaching triple jumps. Good knowledge of off-ice strength training, coordination and flexibility. Experience working with jump harness.

Requirements:

  • Required to work in Canskate
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Develop and implement training programs to improve athletes’ skills and performance.
  • Plan and organize practice sessions, including warm-ups, drills, and conditioning exercises.
  • Evaluate athletes’ progress and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Prepare athletes for competitions and assist during meets.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of athletes during training sessions and competitions.
  • Collaborate with other coaches, team members, and parents to create a positive and supportive team environment.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Figure Skating Coach and high level athlete.
  • Strong knowledge of skating techniques, training methods, and competition rules
  • Skate Canada Coach – NCCP regional certification with preference to applicants who are willing to become National certified.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Polaris Figure Skating Club - Labrador City

The Polaris Figure Skating Club is located in Labrador City, NL. Nestled in beautiful scenic Labrador, we are Newfoundland & Labrador’s best kept secret. With all the amenities of city life, we are at nature’s doorstep. We are seeking another permanent coach who is outgoing, with a love of teaching, to join us beginning in the 2023/2024 season. We promote an encouraging and supportive atmosphere for all our 110 skaters ranging from the PreCanSkate to Gold-level STARSkate levels.

We begin our season in October and run until April. During which we host a test day, attend 3-4 competitions a year (all-expense paid trips for our coaching staff), and we close out the season with an ice show which is bigger and better every year and a local favourite in our community.

Our ideal candidate is a registered Skate Canada Professional Coach in good standing, can offer instruction to our PreCanSkate & CanSkate programs, assess the STAR 1-5 test program, and offer both group and private lessons with a positive, upbeat attitude.

We are also offering an exciting opportunity for our successful candidate to develop an off-ice program (in accordance with Skate Canada guidelines). Our club will provide the rental space!

The Wabush Figure Skating Club (WFSC) is a non-profit, volunteer-run sports club.  We offer several programs for all ages and levels of skating.  We are located in Wabush, Labrador and we are seeking a qualified Regional Skate Canada Coach to assume the role of Club Coach for the 2023 – 2024 skating season. Our club is located in Wabush, NL Canada, A beautiful northern mining town near the Quebec border. Our club offers a variety of Skate Canada programs and our season typically begins October and runs until May with 20 hours Minimum of coaching available each week. This will include on and off ice training. Our  club currently has approximately 80 skaters from PRE-CAN to STAR-SKATE level. We will provide travel fee to Wabush at the beginning of the season and a return fee after our Skating season has ended. We will provide a housing allowance for a successful candidate.

Our coach must be able to teach strong fundamentals to beginning and developing skaters as well as learn to skate to our CanSkaters.

The Seaport Skaters Skating Club, Botwood, NL, is currently seeking a head coach to join our club for the upcoming 2023-2024 season and beyond. We are a non-profit, volunteer run club offering Canskate and Starskate sessions. Open to supporting other programs such as Powerskating and Synchro.  Off ice and private lessons are a possibility if coach is willing to take this on. Our season typically runs from October to April with 12hrs a week.

We currently have 70 members and are a well-established club with a committed executive to ensure club success.

Flying Blades Figure Skating Club - Clarenville

Flying Blades Skating Club is currently seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, professional regional coach trained to join our club for the 2022/2023 skating season. We offer programs for CanSkate, STARSkate, competitive skating and synchronized skating. Position includes group CanSkate instruction as well as group STARSkate lessons with opportunities for private lessons.

The applicant must be a Skate Canada certified coach in good standing.  Must be willing to work as a team member with other coaches.  Must be able to teach strong fundamentals to beginning and developing STARSkaters as well as learn to skate to our CanSkaters.  Overall comprehension of the STAR program is required. The Flying Blades SC season runs from September-April with the possibility to expand from July-April.  The club, which has existed for over 50 years, located in Clarenville, NL, 180km west of St. John’s.
