Introducing The Eleanor Scott Memorial Award in honour of Eleanor’s vast contribution to skating in our province.

Eleanor Scott was a dedicated and passionate volunteer, sharing kindness and an encouraging attitude wherever she went. When not working in the Data Specialist room, you could often find her watching the skaters with admiration and support, cheering for each skater as if they were her own. Her commitment to the skating world was unwavering, and she acted with the best interest of the athletes in mind for every decision that was made. Eleanor’s long-time contribution was offered at many levels, starting as the President of Sparkling Blades FSC, Central Region Chairperson, and then through her SCNL Board involvement, finishing her board career as the Vice-Chairperson of SCNL. Following family members such as Ted Withers, Judy Mugford, Christine Furlong, and then followed by her son Mark Scott, her commitment to the sport of figure skating was a testament to her hard-working and selfless attitude, and solution-oriented mindset, bringing her to receive the 2014 Skate Canada Section Officials Award and the 2018 Skate Canada Volunteer Award of Excellence.
While she left us one year ago after a 5-year fight against cancer, we are elated to allow her infectious spirit and unwavering support for the sport of figure skating to live on, through the Eleanor Scott Memorial Award. This award, along with a $500 development bursary, will be presented to a developing skater from the province of NL annually at the SCNL AGM Awards Banquet. She would be so happy to know that her support for the skaters lives on, offering financial support for developing athletes.
More details on criteria and eligibility will follow in the coming months.
